Playground

Playground SceneWalkington Playground is paid for and maintained by the Playing Fields Association and is there to be enjoyed by all under 14s.

It is true that some of the equipment has become "tired" in recent times and has been subject to vandalism. The quote just to bring the playground back to its original state stands at about £2000. This is rising each month as the surface suffers by being chipped away more and more.

The committee is committed to keeping this well-used area alive, and so have embarked on a process of consultation and redevelopment. Many residents said they travel to other villages such as North Cave and Swanland to use their parks because the equipment is better. Almost 100% of those who completed our survey agreed that the playground would benefit from new equipment.

Playground DamageWe are working in conjunction with the Sport and Play Development service at East Riding council to hopefully gain funding to update the playground. It is evident from the questionnaires filled in by residents, from visiting the school and speaking to the children, that more modern equipment would be welcomed.

What's next?

Our next step is to invite some companies specialising in playgrounds to show us what might be possible within the space we have and more importantly what it will cost.

East Riding Council has pledged their help, and we have been awarded stage 1 of the Play Accreditation Scheme (ERPAS) which is our commitment to ensuring the highest standards of play safety and child protection in our playground.

We hope to have more information for the Walkington community in the coming weeks so watch this space...!
