Walkington Playground

Walkington Playground at the Playing Fields is paid for and maintained by the Playing Fields Association and is there to be enjoyed by all under 14's.

It is true that some of the equipment has become "tired" in recent times and has been subject to vandalism. The quote just to bring the playground back to its original state stands at about £2000. This is rising each month as the surface suffers by being chipped away more and more.

The committee is committed to keeping this well used area alive, and so have embarked on a process of consultation and redevelopment. Many residents said they travel to other villages such as North Cave and Swanland to use their parks because the equipment is better. Almost 100% of those who completed our survey agreed that the playground would benefit from new equipment.

We are working in conjunction with the Sport and Play Development service at East Riding council to hopefully gain funding to update the playground. It is evident from the questionnaires filled in by residents, from visiting the school and speaking to the children, that more modern equipment would be welcomed.

What's Next?

Update - we have now been awarded two grants, one for £35k from East Riding of Yorkshire Council as part of their Play Pathfinders Fund, and another for £50k via Groundwork UK!

This means the playground will be completely revamped before the end of March 2010.

This is great news, and we can't wait for the refurbishment to go ahead.  Please be prepared for a period of closure while the work is carried out.

With thanks to these organisations for their generous support
